Codex Project Feedback Sheet for Writing Grades
A one-page grading sheet for 5th-grade writing projects, with a rubric-based overall score and sections for paragraph-level criteria, editing and revising, and conventions. It is built to help you give specific, actionable feedback on each part of a student's codex without rewriting the rubric from scratch.
“I need a feedback sheet to grade a writing project for students. I need a section for their overall project grade, editing/revising, and conventions. attached is the rubric for the overall grade.”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this sheet after students submit their completed codex project, pairing it with the project rubric so scores stay consistent across students.
- Discussion question to share with students: which paragraph felt strongest to you, and what made its topic sentence and supporting details work?
- Scaffold for struggling writers: review one paragraph together with the student first, pointing to each criterion and modeling what a 3 versus a 2 looks like before they revise.
- Extension for advanced writers: ask them to score their own project using the same sheet, then compare their notes with yours to discuss the gap.
- Estimated time: about 10 to 15 minutes per student to complete the grading sheet, plus a few minutes for a brief conference.
