“List of words to practice reading with ch, pr, sn, dr”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use the four-column grid as a warm-up at the start of a phonics block, having students read down each column before attempting the one-minute challenge across all columns.
- Discussion question: What sound do the letters in "chair" and "print" make together, and how is that different from the sounds in "snow" or "drum"?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Have them cover all but one column at a time, and point to each letter pair as they say the blend aloud before reading the whole word.
- Extension for advanced readers: Ask them to sort the words by blend, then write one new word for each blend that follows the same pattern.
- Estimated time: About 10 to 15 minutes for the word grid and challenge, plus 5 minutes for the mixed-blend practice.
