Nouns and Verbs Station Rotation for Second Grade
A worksheet pack for 2nd graders that introduces nouns as naming words and verbs as doing words, then builds identification skills through a mini-lesson, picture-supported practice sentences, and two hands-on workstations. Picture clues and guided prompts are included for on-level and below-level readers, making it well suited to a 45-to-60-minute literacy block with small-group rotations.
“create a worksheet pack where students identify and use Nouns and Verbs for 2nd grade on level and below level add picture clues, prompts, with mini-lesson and 2 workstations”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Open with the mini-lesson using the naming and doing word table, pointing to each picture and asking students to say whether the word names someone or something, or tells what someone is doing.
- Discussion question: "How can you tell if a word is a noun or a verb in a sentence? What clue helped you?" Encourage students to use the picture clues and sentence position to justify their answers.
- For struggling readers, read each sentence aloud, have them circle the noun and underline the verb with a picture card beside them, and use sentence frames such as "The ___ is the naming word" and "The ___ is the doing word."
- For advanced students, have them write two original sentences using a noun and verb of their choice, then challenge them to find a verb that could go with a different noun in the same sentence.
- Plan roughly 10 minutes for the mini-lesson, about 15 minutes per workstation, and 5 minutes for a wrap-up share so the full rotation fits within one block.
