Photosynthesis Choice Board for Seventh Grade
A nine-option choice board in which 7th graders pick three activities to show what they learned from a photosynthesis lab, using a tic-tac-toe pattern or free choice. It builds science vocabulary, the photosynthesis equation, and cell structure understanding through drawing, creative writing, and other formats, and it works well as a flexible post-lab review.
“A choice board with 9 ways to show learning about photosynthesis for a lab activity”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this right after the photosynthesis lab so students can connect hands-on observations to the chloroplast structure and the equation shown at the top of the packet.
- Discussion question: Why do plants need both light-dependent and light-independent reactions, and what would happen if one stopped working?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Pre-label a chloroplast diagram or provide a word bank of key terms (thylakoid, stroma, glucose, carbon dioxide) before students choose their tasks.
- Extension for advanced students: Require a choice that includes a quantitative connection, such as predicting how changes in light intensity would affect oxygen output from the lab.
- Estimated time: Plan roughly 45 to 60 minutes for students to complete three activities, plus a short sharing period if time allows.
