“Create a graphic organizer for each act of Macbeth. There should be a space for an act summary and space for 3 quotes with analysis of how they connect to theme of power, ambition, and/or freedom”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use one organizer per act as students finish reading, ideally as a 20-30 minute independent or partner task at the close of each reading session.
- Discussion question: How does Macbeth's ambition change between the Act I prophecy and his later decisions, and what quote best shows that shift?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a short plot summary or a list of pre-selected key quotes to choose from, and model one completed analysis together before students work alone.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to trace one theme (such as freedom) across all five acts and argue whether Macbeth or Lady Macbeth loses more of it.
- Estimated time: About 20-30 minutes per act, or roughly 2 to 3 hours total across the play if completed act by act.
