- Discussion question: Why do 'receive' and 'believe' follow the 'i before e except after c' rule, and what other words can you think of that break it?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a word bank with picture cues or syllable breaks (bus-y, bus-i-ness) for the Tuesday cover-spell-check activity and the Wednesday sentence task.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to write a sentence for all three of their chosen words that uses a word from the list in a compound or complex sentence, or to find a related word family (peace/peaceful, important/importance).
- Time estimate: About 5–8 minutes on Monday, 5 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday, 5–8 minutes on Wednesday, and 5–10 minutes for Friday's test, roughly 30 minutes total per week.
