Geography and History Vocabulary Reference Guide for 6th Grade
By alexis L.
A illustrated vocabulary reference guide that pairs key geography and history terms with pictures and simple definitions for 6th graders starting a unit on the subject. It works well as a quick-reference handout students can keep in their binders and return to throughout the unit.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Introduce the guide at the start of the unit and walk through two or three terms together so students see how the picture and definition work as a pair.
- Discussion question: which of these terms could you already connect to something you've seen in the news or in your own community, and why?
- For struggling readers, pre-teach the most frequently used terms in small groups and let them trace or label the images to reinforce meaning.
- For advanced students, have them write an original sentence for each term that uses it in a historical or geographic context.
- Plan roughly 15 to 20 minutes for a first pass through the guide, with brief check-ins across the unit as new terms come up.
