Career Clusters and Jobs Word Search for Grade 3
A short practice set for 3rd graders that pairs each career cluster with a job that fits it, reinforced through a word search and a cluster-to-job matching activity. It introduces the idea that jobs with similar purposes are grouped together, helping young learners begin to think about what kinds of work interest them.
“Create a word search using all the career clusters and a career that will go with each career on a 3rd grade level”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Introduce the concept first by reading the "What is a Career Cluster?" callout aloud and asking students to name a job they know that helps people stay healthy.
- Discussion question: Which career cluster would you like to explore someday, and why? Follow up by asking what everyday skill from that job students already practice.
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a word bank with the cluster names and jobs, and let students work in pairs during the matching section before tackling the word search independently.
- Extension for advanced students: Have them invent a new career cluster, name it, and list two jobs that belong in it with a one-sentence description for each.
- Estimated time: About 30 to 40 minutes for the matching activity and word search together, suitable for a center or small-group block.
