“use this plan and expand it into a 4 day plan. Add roll and read, dictation and exit tickets. make the time frame a 25 min lesson”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use each 25-minute block as a daily phonics warm-up or small-group lesson, keeping the Warm-Up to about 5 minutes, Core Activities to about 15, and the Wrap-Up with exit ticket to about 5.
- Discussion question: Why does the l stay silent in words like walk, and how does that help you read a word you have never seen before?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Pair them with a partner for Roll and Read, let them say the sound trick aloud before writing, and offer a word bank with the target ending highlighted.
- Extension for advanced students: Have them invent their own nonsense words with the five endings and read them to a partner, or write a short sentence using three words from the bank.
- Time estimate: About 25 minutes per day across four consecutive days, roughly 100 minutes of total instruction.
