Daily Grammar Warm-Ups: Nouns, Verbs, and Plurals
A five-day set of short grammar warm-ups for 4th graders that builds skill with nouns, verbs, proper nouns, pronouns, and plural nouns through quick sorting, circling, and writing tasks. Each day's activity is brief and pairs well with a closing review or a short unit assessment.
“do a practice and assessment on nouns, verbs, pronouns, proper nouns, and plural nouns”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use one warm-up at the start of each day as a 5 to 10 minute routine, or group the sheets into a single 30 to 40 minute review block before an assessment.
- Discussion question: How do you know whether a word is a person, place, or thing, and how is that different from an action word?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a word bank with noun and verb examples and let students say each word aloud before marking N or V.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to write two sentences of their own, one with a proper noun and one with a plural noun, and explain what capitalization or spelling change they used.
- Estimated time: About 10 minutes per warm-up, or roughly 40 minutes if all five days are completed together for an assessment review.
