Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a 5-10 minute warm-up at the start of a reading block, having students read each pyramid aloud from top to bottom before moving to the next.
- Discussion question: Which words stayed the same as the sentence grew, and which word added new meaning? Ask students to point to the picture that matches each sentence.
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Read each line with the student first, then have them echo back, or cover the lines below the one they are reading so the focus stays on one step at a time.
- Extension for advanced students: Have them write a new pyramid using a different rhyming word (for example, mat or sat) and illustrate it.
- Estimated time: about 8-10 minutes for all six pyramids, including one reread.
