Self-Management and Willpower Slides for Grade 7
A four-day slide deck (Monday through Thursday) for 7th graders that builds self-management skills by helping students name a long-term goal, spot distractions, and practice willpower strategies. Each day includes a clear learning target, guided questions, think-time and turn-and-talk routines, and sentence frames, with photo prompts on the slides to anchor discussion. It follows a gradual-release arc, so it works well for a daily 30 to 45 minute advisory, SEL, or study-skills block, with partner and whole-group work.
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Open each day by reading the learning target aloud and asking students to restate it in their own words before moving into the Monday through Thursday slides.
- Discussion question: What is one distraction that makes it hard for you to stick with a goal, and what could you do the next time it shows up?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide the sentence frames on a printed card (for example, "One goal I have is ___ because ___") and allow students to respond in writing or by pointing to a picture before speaking.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to design a personal willpower plan with a specific trigger, strategy, and check-in date, then explain how they would measure progress.
- Estimated time: About 30 to 45 minutes per day, with the Monday goal-setting slide and the Thursday reflection slide typically needing the most discussion time.
