ASL Color Vocabulary: 3-Day Practice Packet
By Gabrielle H.
A three-day practice packet for ASL 1 students learning color signs and the names of U.S. states, with a worksheet format that asks learners to describe handshape, location, and movement and sketch each sign's motion. It builds vocabulary recall and visual-spatial sign analysis, and it's designed for short daily practice blocks in an introductory ASL course.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use one day per session in class: Day 1 for color signs, Day 2 for state signs, and Day 3 for review and self-quizzing from the completed sketches.
- Discussion question: Which part of a sign, handshape, location, or movement, do you find easiest to remember, and why?
- Scaffold for struggling learners: Pair each sign with a short video demonstration from your class materials before students write their own memory cues.
- Extension for advanced students: Have them sign a short sentence naming two colors and two states, or compare regional variants you've shown them.
- Estimated time: About 20 to 30 minutes per day, including demonstration and independent practice.
