Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a whole-group warm-up or a small-group phonics station, working through one vowel family at a time before moving to the next.
- Discussion question: What sound does the middle letter make in each word, and how does changing that vowel change the word (for example, cat to cot)?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: sound out each word with them by tapping out the three phonemes, and offer picture cards to pair with the words they're unsure of.
- Extension for advanced students: have them build new CVC words by swapping a single letter in each row, or write a short sentence using three of the words.
- Estimated time: about 15 to 20 minutes for a full pass through all five vowel groups.
