Math3-5
Four Days of Mixed Multiplication and Division Homework
By Jamie W.
A four-day homework set for 5th graders that builds multiplication and division fluency with 20 mixed facts at the start of each page, followed by four multi-digit problems involving 3- and 4-digit multiplication and division with remainders. Students practice speed, accuracy, and showing their work on each step.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Assign one day per night as independent homework, or use the Monday page as a five-minute warm-up before a math block.
- Discussion question: When you divide 53 by 4, what does the remainder of 1 tell you about the problem, and how could you check your answer?
- Scaffold for struggling readers and mathematicians: allow a multiplication chart or skip-counting strategies for the facts, and have them work the first multi-digit problem alongside you with a place-value grid.
- Extension for advanced students: ask them to create their own 4-digit by 2-digit multiplication problem and explain an efficient strategy such as the distributive property.
- Estimated time: about 5 minutes for the fact section and 15 to 20 minutes for the multi-digit problems, roughly 25 minutes per night.
