Six Regions of North America Review Game for Grade 3
By April L.
A card-based review game for 3rd graders in Georgia that helps students match clue cards to the six North American regions where Native American peoples lived, with a few multi-clue cards to build careful reading. It targets SS3G3.a and SS3H1.a–b and includes a recording sheet so students write each region name after they say it aloud.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a small-group or whole-class review after students have studied the Arctic, Northwest, Southwest, Plains, Northeast, and Southeast regions, allowing about 20–30 minutes for play.
- Discussion question: Which clues on Card 2 tell you the Arctic is cold, and why would people there build homes from snow and ice instead of wood?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Read each card aloud together first, and pause to ask students to point to the clue words (such as "seal," "desert," or "tall trees") before deciding on a region.
- Extension for advanced students: Have them choose one ★ card and explain in writing how each clue connects to the region's climate, resources, and way of life.
- Estimated time: About 25 minutes including a quick check of the recording sheets at the end.
