- Use as a review station or warm-up before a shop project, or as a stand-alone 45-minute vocabulary session; students draw lines between terms and definitions in the matching sections.
- Discussion question: Why does wood grain direction affect how a board warps or checks, and how would you account for it when planning a cut?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a word bank or pair them with a partner, and have them read each definition aloud before matching.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to identify a joint or fastener in a real project photo and explain which term from the packet best describes its application.
- Estimated time: about 30 to 45 minutes for Part 1 and Part 2 combined, depending on how many identification and application items are completed.
