Multi-Digit Multiplication Review for Grade 5
A 10-problem review sheet that gives 5th graders practice with 3-by-2 and 4-by-2 digit multiplication, using partial products and the standard algorithm. Each strategy is modeled with a worked example before students try problems on their own, so the sheet works well as a warm-up or end-of-unit review.
“a 5th grade review math sheet that covers 3 by 2 and 4 by 2 digit multiplication- with one example of each of the following strategies: partial products and standards algorithm. 10 problems”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a 20-30 minute independent review after students have been introduced to place value and both multiplication strategies, or as a station activity during math centers.
- Discussion question: Why does breaking 423 into 400 + 20 + 3 give the same answer as the standard algorithm, and where do you see each partial product show up in the area model?
- Scaffold for struggling readers and learners: Have them complete the area model grid first and fill in the six partial products before adding, and provide a place-value chart to keep digits lined up.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to create their own 4-by-2 digit problem, solve it with both strategies, and explain which one they find more efficient and why.
- Estimated time: about 25 minutes, including the time to read the key terms and worked examples.
