By Phoenix C.
A Tuesday-through-Friday set of daily do-now and exit-ticket activities for 10th-grade Psychology 101 that introduces cultural norms, implicit social rules, and cognitive biases. Students build skills in explaining how culture and thinking shape behavior and in interpreting psychology-related data and descriptions.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use the Tuesday spark as a 5-10 minute do-now at the start of class, then move into the scenario analysis as a short whole-class or pair discussion.
- Discussion question: Which implicit norm did you follow today, and what would have happened if you had broken it? Follow-up: How might that same norm look different in another culture?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a word bank of key terms (cultural norms, implicit norms, cognitive bias) and sentence starters such as "This behavior is shaped by ___ because ___."
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to compare two scenarios and identify a cognitive bias that could explain a gap between what people expected and what happened.
- Estimated time: about 15-20 minutes per day, including the do-now and exit ticket.
