Weekly Reading Comprehension Homework for Grade 7
A five-day set of one-page reading comprehension packets for 7th and 8th graders with learning disabilities, each built around a short story with a word bank and checkpoint questions. Students practice vocabulary in context, close reading, and inference, with the story and checkpoints offering built-in scaffolding.
“Create 5 days of ELA homework for 7th and 8th grade students with learning disabilities. The homework should focus on reading comprehension and each day should take 1 page.”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Assign one day's page as independent homework each night, or use Monday's page as a guided practice activity in class to model how to use the word bank before students work on their own.
- Discussion question: Why do you think Maya pressed her eye to the gap even though she knew she should go inside? What clues in the text support your answer?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Read the word bank aloud together, then have students underline the sentence where each vocabulary word appears before answering the checkpoint questions.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to write a short continuation of the story from the moment the two bright eyes look back, using at least two word bank terms.
- Each page should take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete, including the checkpoint questions.
