Science6-8
Energy and Robotics Vocabulary Stations for Grade 6
By Sierra W.
A 90-minute collaborative inquiry station lab using Cubelets robot kits, paired with a CER-framework worksheet loosely organized around the 5 E's. Students build vocabulary with Frayer models and discuss how energy moves through a robot, which develops scientific reasoning, claim-evidence-reasoning writing, and teamwork.

Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a full 90-minute block, with students rotating through Cubelet building stations in small groups of three or four, pausing for Frayer model entries at the start.
- Discussion question: How does energy get from one Cubelet to the next, and what evidence would show that energy is moving?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Provide a word bank and sentence starters for the CER claim, evidence, and reasoning sections, and pair them with a partner who can model the vocabulary.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to predict and test how adding or removing a block changes the robot's behavior, then explain the energy change in their reasoning.
- Estimated time: About 15 minutes for vocabulary and the Getting Started talk, 50 minutes for station rotations, and 25 minutes for the CER worksheet and wrap-up discussion.
