Dividing by 1-Digit Divisors Practice for Grade 5
A one-page math practice set for 5th graders that builds fluency with long division by one-digit divisors, followed by word problems set in a road-trip context. Students work through eight computation problems and several multi-step word problems, with blank lines provided for showing work.

Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use as independent practice after direct instruction on long division with one-digit divisors, or as a warm-up or exit ticket in a 20-30 minute math block.
- Discussion question: When you divide 565 by 3, why does the remainder matter, and how do you decide whether to keep it as a remainder or write it as a decimal?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: Pair the word problems with a short anchor chart listing key words (per, each, total, share equally) and have students underline the question before dividing.
- Extension for advanced students: Ask them to check each quotient by multiplying back, or to write their own road-trip division problem using a different distance and number of days.
- Estimated time: about 25 minutes for the full page, including the word problems.
