Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a 30-45 minute science or reading block, introducing the Key Terms first and previewing the illustrated ecosystem image before students complete any organizers.
- Discussion question: What is one resource you used today, and how did it come from Earth? Follow up with: What could happen to a pond if trash was dumped into it?
- Scaffold for struggling or newcomer readers by pairing them with a partner, reading the text aloud, and letting them draw or point before writing words on the organizer.
- Extension for advanced students: have them compare two ecosystems from the text (such as a forest and a pond) on a Venn diagram and explain how a change in one part affects the others.
- Plan roughly 10 minutes for vocabulary review, 15-20 minutes for reading and organizer work, and 10 minutes for a whole-class share-out.
