Planting Day: How Flowers and Trees Grow
By duhaa D.
A colourful, picture-led slide presentation for Pre-K children (ages 3–4) that follows the stages of how flowers and trees grow, plus what plants need to thrive. It uses very short English sentences and plenty of "What comes next?" and "What does a plant need?" prompts to get little ones talking, and it's designed for a 15–20 minute whole-class circle time.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use this as a whole-class circle-time session in a British nursery, ideally after a hands-on activity such as looking at seeds or a real plant pot.
- Discussion question: "What comes next?" after each growth stage, encouraging children to point to the next picture in order.
- Scaffold for children still building English: pair each picture with a gesture (e.g. hands cupped for a seed, arms reaching up for a tree) and repeat key words like "seed", "sprout" and "water".
- Extension for more confident learners: ask them to order the stages themselves, or to name what else a tree might need (e.g. "What does a tree need to grow big?").
- Estimated time: about 15–20 minutes, including questions and a short movement or pretend-planting activity at the end.
