Project Portfolio Development
This multi-day project guides 10th graders through selecting a research topic, conducting initial research, and creating a headline for a larger poster presentation. It encourages student-driven topic choice and collaborative work in groups of 2-3.
“Can we update this to be a few days in length... day 1 should be a topic selection day and some research. Students are not required to use one of the three topic examples they may find one of their own that they find interesting. Instead of using the 8 x 11 pieces of paper students will be ask to make the headline on a larger piece of poster paper in groups of 2-3”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Allocate Day 1 for topic selection and initial research, allowing students to choose topics of personal interest.
- Discussion question: How does choosing a topic you're passionate about impact the quality of your research and presentation?
- Scaffold for struggling learners: Provide a list of potential research areas or guiding questions to help narrow down choices.
- Extension for advanced students: Encourage students to develop a preliminary research question or hypothesis during the topic selection phase.
