Game Day Gear Cut-Outs and Line-Up Counting Mat
By Kaitlyn C.
A printable cut-out activity with basketballs and jerseys for young learners, paired with a team roster line-up mat that practices counting and one-to-one touch-and-say. It's a hands-on, short-session resource well suited to small-group or center time in the early primary grades.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Use as a 15-20 minute center or small-group activity, with students cutting out the basketballs and jerseys before moving to the line-up mat.
- Discussion question: How many jerseys do you have, and how do you know? Ask students to count aloud as they place each piece.
- Scaffold for struggling counters by providing fewer pieces at first, or by pairing them with a partner who models touch-and-say.
- Extension for advanced students: have them group the gear into sets of five or ten and explain how they grouped the items.
- Plan roughly 5 minutes for cutting prep, 10 minutes for counting, and a few minutes at the end for students to store their gear in their bags.
