Counting by 5s Matching Practice
By Kriss W.
A short matching worksheet where kindergartners count groups of five stars and draw lines to the correct numbers (5, 10, 15, 20). It builds skip-counting by fives, one-to-one counting, and number recognition, and works well as a quick independent or small-group practice station.
Customize for your classroom
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Introduce skip counting by 5s first with a number line or by counting fingers on one and two hands, then use this sheet as guided practice.
- Discussion question: "How many stars are in each group? How did you know the total without counting every star one by one?"
- Scaffold for struggling learners: provide counters or pre-counted groups, and have them touch and say each group of five aloud before drawing the line.
- Extension for advanced students: ask them to draw their own picture for 25 or 30 and write the matching number, or count by 5s past 30.
- Estimated time: about 10 to 15 minutes, suitable for a center rotation or a short whole-class warm-up.
