Teacher Guide & Tips
- Introduce the sheet at the start of a rational numbers unit, then have students annotate it with their own examples as each operation is taught.
- Discussion question: Why is 0.\overline{3} a rational number even though it never ends, and how could you write it as a fraction?
- Scaffold for struggling readers: pair them with a partner to work one example from each section together before attempting problems independently.
- Extension for advanced students: have them explain why dividing by a nonzero rational always gives a rational result, using the a/b definition.
- Estimated time: about 15 to 20 minutes for a guided walkthrough, plus 10 minutes for independent practice with the examples.
