Station Rotation: Calendar Skills for 3rd Grade
A set of station-based practice activities for 3rd graders, built around reading calendars, identifying weeks and months, and recording answers on a Calendar Station Log. Each station pairs a short group task with a reference table or word bank, making it well suited to a rotating small-group block of about 45 minutes.
“Use all of the questions on the attached PDF to create 10 different learning activities or practice worksheets. Include all questions for each learning activity and practice worksheet.”
Teacher Guide & Tips
- Set up each station with its reference page and log sheet, then rotate small groups through them in about 5 minutes each so the full set fits a 45-minute block.
- Discussion question: "How do you know which week of the month we are in?" Encourage students to count the rows of the calendar and explain their reasoning to the group.
- Scaffold for struggling readers: provide a pre-labeled calendar with the month name and day numbers highlighted, and read the station task aloud before groups begin.
- Extension for advanced students: ask them to name the day of the week for a given date or to find how many days separate two highlighted dates.
- Plan roughly 5 minutes per station and 10 minutes at the end for a whole-class share of answers.
